Terrie's Tip Ad

The commercials that first come to mine are the CDC's smoking ads. The specific one is "Terri". Terri was a beautiful young woman when she started smoking. Terri has lost all of her teeth, her teeth, and the ability to talk normally since she has a tracheostomy. I remember when I first saw this commercial it honestly scared me. I knew smoking was bad for me, but this was the "shock value" they were looking for. Smoking in general has powerful chemicals that can affect a lot of areas of our body. This is partly what the commercial was showing their viewers as well. Nicotine can be stimulate the nervous system or inhibit the nervous system based on people' mood. Long-term dependence on nicotine can lead to cancer and is known to be one of the most addictive substances. Nicotine specifically affects the pathways that have Dopamine in them. This is very important because Dopamine is responsible for thought and emotion, initiating movements, and pleasure/reward. Without adequate or proper dopamine, our bodies would have difficulties with movements of the body. Also a person would have a bad mood, loss in pleasure, and difficulty with staying alert or focusing. Terri ended up losing her life to a battle with throat and oral cancer. She has many other videos that have the same effect on people to this day.
