Activity of Analysis: Drinking Coffee
Drinking coffee is one thing I must do to start my day off right. My "start position" would be with arm/forearm at 90 degrees, with the cup on a surface. The "end position" would be with my arm/forearm fully flexed with the cup touching my lips to take a sip. The prime mover muscle between the start and end position is the Biceps. The antagonist muscle would be the Triceps. A Synergist muscle would be the Brachialis. The type of muscle activation going on in the elbow joint would be "concentric" because this is a shortening of the muscle fiber. The motion of taking the glass from the table to my mouth is happening in the sagittal plane. As the plane splits the body into equal right and left halves, the movements that occur in this plane are flexion and extension. The elbow rotates around a "frontal axis."The osteokinematic of the elbow joint include flexion/extension, and pronation/supination. The arthrokinematics of the elbow joint include the "involuntary" movements that go unseen. The hinge joint of the elbow includes the concave ulna and the convex humerus. During flexion of the elbow, the ulna rolls and glides anteriorly on the humerus. It would roll and glide posteriorly on the humerus during extension on the elbow.
